The machine is of portal construction. The base is a solid polymer concrete which guarantees optimal absorption of machining and mass energy. The moving parts are mounted on highly stiff, frictionless linear guideways. This provides a highly durable and stick-slip-free motion for all running conditions. The machining table is made of a well ribbed cast iron construction in which all transmission elements like supporting sufaces for guide carriage and the ball screw are integrated. For the HSM 600U ProdMod is a choice between different pallet-chuck systems. Thoose chuck will be integrated in the table construction. A weight optimized cast slide has been developed for the z-axis in order to enable a high cutting capacity when rough machining. Due to the box-form and good ribbing this spindle slide grants highest machine accuracy. The Mikron HSM U Version was developed so that workpieces could be machined in true 5-axis simultaneous high-speed mode. Using optimized direct drive motors for the B and C axes made it possible to produce the first real high-speed 5-axis machining center. The Mikron HSM 600U (ProdMod) was developed taking special account of the technological requirements of the high-speed milling process (HSM / HSC). This includes, to a special extent, outstanding dynamics characterised by high travel speeds and optimal acceleration and pull ability. For this reason, machines for high-speed machining are typically characterised by the low masses of the moving machine parts, i.e. the axis slides.
