NTMA Apprentice Contest to take place June 10-12 in Indianapolis
02/25/2010
For over twenty years, GF AgieCharmilles has demonstrated leadership in the manufacturing industry by consistently communicating the importance of a skilled workforce, and has provided useful tools to help the industry understand the challenges and implement programs to educate and train workers. Through web resources, PowerPoint presentations, comprehensive directories of EDM courses, a career opportunities chart and more, the company provides a wide variety of support materials for community colleges, guidance counselors, shop managers and students.
Additionally, GF AgieCharmilles conducts nationwide presentations on the importance of careers in manufacturing and regularly provides discounted wire EDM machines to training centers and schools. In fact, for over a decade, GF AgieCharmilles has outfitted the shop whose apprentice wins the Annual National Tooling & Machining Association (NTMA) Apprentice Contest with an EDM system. GF AgieCharmilles Chairman, Harry Moser, is active in various organizations that strongly support the skilled workforce initiative, including serving on the boards of the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) and the National Council for Advanced Manufacturing (NACFAM), and leading the Education Team at NTMA.
This will be the 20th consecutive year GF AgieCharmilles will sponsor the National event’s Grand Prize, with a value totaling up to $100,000. Here’s what one winning company had to say about the Grand Prize: “The Charmilles Robofil 510P Wire EDM allowed us to do different work than we were able to do prior; which in turn brought new customers to Mahuta Tool Corp. We liked the machine so much that a few years later we purchased another Charmilles machine – a Robofil 310 Wire EDM.”
